Purpose Statement

of the Arts and Sciences Heritage Fund in Recognition of
Janet Ann and William Grant Tifft

The intention of the Tifft Heritage Fund is twofold: 1) to honor and preserve the artistic work of Janet Ann and the scientific work of William Grant Tifft, and 2) to share the findings and benefits of their works and ideally enrich the development of fund recipients.

Janet Tifft is a renowned watercolor artist and after her passing in 2015, her husband William started a foundation in her name to preserve her artwork and help support other local artists develop their own artistic expression through a grant program.

The Arts and Sciences Heritage Fund in Recognition of
Janet Ann and William Grant Tifft is hosted by Jewish Philanthropies. Grants are distributed by non-profit agencies to nominated affliates.

Currently the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild (SAWG) of Tucson, AZ is the primary distributor of
Tifft Heritage Grants.

Annual Applications

Grant applications are due every March. The Tifft Heritage Committee decides recipients in December as preparation for grant cycle commencing each January for 1 year.

Prospective Grantees

In order to be eligible to receive a Tifft Heritage Grant, applicants must be affiliates of an existing non-profit organization authorized to distribute the grants.

Standing Invitation

Non-profit organizations in the Tucson, AZ area are invited to apply to become a Tifft grant administrator for the opportunity to fund artists and receive organizational support as well.

Supporting Local Artists

The arts domain was created to honor and preserve the works of Janet Ann Tifft. Grants may be awarded to eligible artists developing advanced water-based skills who are interested in expanding their creative horizons by reviewing some of Janet’s approaches. A guidebook will be provided and additional sources of information will be available to grantees upon acceptance of the grant.
